Bavaria: Roller coaster in Legoland further blocked after the accident

Günzburg (dpa / lby) - After the roller coaster accident in which 31 people were injured in the Legoland amusement park, the train will be out of service for a long time. It will remain closed by the police at least until Tuesday next week, probably even longer, police spokesman Dominic Geissler said on Wednesday. "There are other expert appointments on site and that's why the roller coaster has not yet been released."

On Thursday last week, a train of the "fire dragon" drove into the amusement park in Günzburg, Swabia, on a train in front. 31 people were injured, one seriously. Criminal police and the public prosecutor's office now want to clarify the cause of the accident together with experts.

So far it is unclear whether another security check will be ordered after the police investigations in Legoland before the roller coaster goes back into operation. "Once the investigations have been completed and the relevant reports have been submitted, we will examine whether we need to take action within the scope of our responsibilities as a building supervisory authority," reported a spokeswoman for the Günzburg city administration.

According to the regulations, roller coasters must be inspected by an independent body at least once a year. It is unclear when the "fire dragon" last had such a review. A spokeswoman for Legoland did not respond to inquiries and referred to the ongoing investigation.
