Bavaria: Smuggling: 15 people transported in seven-seaters

Neuhaus am Inn (dpa / lby) - The federal police in Lower Bavaria found 15 people without ID documents in a car, partially crammed into a trunk. According to the police on Friday, these are Russian nationals aged between two and 44 who were to be smuggled into Germany on Thursday. During the inspection near Neuhaus am Inn (Passau district), the officials found four small children sitting on the floor and four young people cooped up in the trunk. Nine of the occupants were not wearing seat belts. The state of health of the people is stable, said a spokesman for the federal police.

The 33-year-old driver is being investigated on suspicion of smuggling foreigners under a serious health risk. It was initially unclear what would happen next for the smuggled people.

Smuggling operations of this magnitude are rare for the federal police in Passau. "There are cases from time to time, but there have not been 15 people plus driver in a seven-seater for a long time," said the spokesman.
