Bavaria: Thunderstorms come after the heat, but no widespread rain

After a few very hot days, a cold front will move through Bavaria from Friday afternoon. But that only brings rain with it. One region in particular is left empty-handed - and it is precisely this region that is in dire need of precipitation.

Munich (dpa / lby) - After the heat of the past few days, an approaching cold front promises some cooling. It also brings some showers and thunderstorms to Bavaria, which can even be severe with heavy rain and heavy gusts of wind. Nevertheless, the drought in large parts of the Free State will not change much for the time being: "It's just a drop in the bucket because it won't rain across the board in Franconia," said a meteorologist from the German Weather Service (DWD).

Friday will be hot again in many regions of Bavaria. 30 degrees are in many places, in the Regensburg area it should even be 35 degrees. "In the course of the day, however, a few clouds will gather from the west," explained the expert. In the afternoon and evening, individual showers and thunderstorms were added, which also brought heavy rain and heavy gusts of wind locally. "But many places and regions will still get through the day completely dry."

In the night to Saturday, the showers and thunderstorms then turn into more extensive rainy areas, "there increases the probability that you will get a bit of rain". Especially in Franconia, which is suffering from drought, the rain moves on very quickly, "and then nothing comes after it".

On Saturday there will be a small split in the weather: The cold front is still over southern Bavaria, which is why the Alps and the foothills of the Alps as well as Lower Bavaria will still get individual showers and thunderstorms. "Overall, it's also rather cloudy there. In northern Bavaria, on the other hand, it will be mostly friendly again on Saturday," predicted the meteorologist. With 21 to 27 degrees it will be cooler than last.

A similar constellation can be seen on Sunday. In the north there will probably be more sun than in the south. The temperature will remain at a similar level, showers and thunderstorms should only be limited to the areas near the Alps.

At the beginning of the week, the influence of high pressure will probably prevail again. "But at least in the first half of the week it won't be that hot again," emphasized the DWD expert. The 30-degree limit is only scratched in parts of Franconia. The summer weather is pleasant for the students during the holidays, but with a view to drought and the risk of forest fires, the lack of widespread rain is a disadvantage, according to the meteorologist.
