Bavaria: Virologist: Do not cancel Wiesn despite the risk of infection

Munich (dpa / lby) - Despite a certain risk of corona infection for visitors, the Oktoberfest in Munich should not be canceled according to the Munich virologist Ulrike Protzer. "If you decide to go to the Wiesn, you have to accept a certain risk of infection," said the head of virology at the Technical University and at the Helmholtz Center in Munich of the "Süddeutsche Zeitung" (Saturday edition). From their point of view, canceling the Oktoberfest again is not an option.

"One day you have to return to normal life, and that's possible now if you're sensible about it," said Protzer. Older and immunocompromised people as well as people with previous illnesses, for whom Corona can be particularly dangerous, should therefore stay away from the Wiesn. She advises everyone else to get a booster vaccination two to four weeks beforehand – "and if possible a vaccination against flu as well."
