Bavaria: Warning from the economy: location in danger

Munich (dpa / lby) - The Association of Bavarian Business (vbw) warns in dramatic terms of an existential threat to Bavarian companies. All three pillars - industry, trade and commerce - are in danger, said chief executive Bertram Brossardt on Friday. The cause is "an unprecedented crisis cocktail": rapidly increasing energy costs, concerns about security of supply, price increases, material bottlenecks, delivery problems and labor shortages.

According to Brossardt, vbw assumes that the expected recession will last into the year after next. The energy supply will also be "extremely difficult" in the winter after next, 2023/24. If flower shops or restaurateurs have to close in large numbers, it's not just an economic problem, said Brossardt. "It's also a very emotional question for our Bavarians." According to the vbw general manager, the industry is again increasingly discussing the relocation of production abroad. "Our location is just too expensive."

Brossardt called on the state government to accelerate the slow expansion of renewable energies and to do everything in their power to support the planned power lines from north to south Germany: "We need these power lines." The population must be convinced. "Without that, we can't do it at the moment." Brossardt also called for hydroelectric power and biogas plants to be expanded again in Bavaria.
