Concern about Schlager legend: Tony Marshall is said to be seriously ill

Everyone knows him as an eternal mood cannon. But in recent years Tony Marshall's health problems have increased. Now the 84-year-old is said to have withdrawn completely to his family. A return to the public is probably impossible.

Speculations about the state of health of a person are forbidden in and of themselves. However, Tony Marshall and his family have repeatedly gone public in the past to talk about the pop singer's health setbacks.

For example, we learned of a stroke followed by kidney failure that Herbert Anton Bloeth, as Marshall's real name is, suffered in 2019. It is said that he barely survived this.

The following year, the now 84-year-old spoke to the "Bild" newspaper about his treatment: "Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday I show up for dialysis at seven o'clock sharp. The night before I go to sleep at three o'clock in the morning, after three glass of red wine."

But those aren't the only health issues the singer has struggled with in recent years. He has heart problems, diabetes and suffers from a nervous disease. In 2021, there was also a dramatic corona infection. Marshall ended up in the intensive care unit and had to be artificially ventilated. She was worried about her husband at the time, known to Marshall's wife Gaby, to whom he has been married for 60 years.

The last time bad news made the rounds was in May. Marshall had to cancel a planned concert with his sons Pascal and Marc. The latter announced the reason for this via Instagram: "Our dad had an emergency operation today." But still: In July, Tony Marshall was seen on stage again at a performance in a Black Forest hotel. He was in a wheelchair.

In this respect, the report that the "Bild" newspaper is now spreading, citing a friend of Marshall's who is not named, seems plausible. Accordingly, the Schlager icon is "deathly ill". After a short stay in a retirement home, Marshall withdrew completely into the family environment and was cared for there, it is said. A return to the public is excluded.

"Tony doesn't want to see anyone but his family because he feels too weak. He wants to be remembered as a happy entertainer," the singer's friend is quoted as saying. And further: "I've said goodbye to Tony forever."

Marshall started his Schlager career in the early 1970s. He became known with mood hits like "Beautiful Maid", "Boy, the world is beautiful" or "Today we hit the drums", although he is a trained opera singer. His marriage to his wife Gaby in 1962 produced three children.
