Hesse: 15 children injured by gas: search for the cause is ongoing

Bad Schwalbach (dpa/lhe) - After a gas leak at a comprehensive school in Idstein in southern Hesse, investigations into the cause of the incident continue. It was still unclear what type of gas it was, a police spokesman said on Friday morning. According to civil protection, 15 students were injured by the gas leak on Thursday. Initially, at least 23 injured students were mentioned. According to the police and civil protection, it cannot be ruled out that tear gas was sprayed in the school.

Two rescue helicopters, around 30 ambulances and around ten emergency doctors were deployed during the large-scale operation. They examined 75 students on site who complained of irritation of the eyes and respiratory tract. A total of around 120 helpers were deployed. Although there was no longer any danger in the afternoon, school operations were temporarily suspended and only resumed on Friday.
