Hesse: 2,600 charging stations for electric vehicles in Hesse

Wiesbaden (dpa/lhe) - 2,600 charging stations for electric vehicles are registered in Hesse. That corresponds to 41 charging stations for every 100,000 inhabitants in the state, as the Ministry of Transport announced at the request of the German Press Agency in Wiesbaden. In Baden-Württemberg, 53 and in North Rhine-Westphalia 34 charging stations are operated per 100,000 inhabitants.

A charging station can have multiple charging points for charging electric vehicles. A total of at least 4744 charging points are currently publicly accessible in Hesse. There would also be charging points at companies. Transport Minister Tarek Al-Wazir (Greens) said that car traffic must continue to be converted to e-mobility. "We promote this wherever there are still opportunities and scope for development for e-mobility and there are no overarching funding offers."

In order to bring a publicly accessible charging infrastructure to the area, a program for local electricity suppliers was launched. The minister announced that the installation of charging infrastructure in company car parks would also be funded. For an uncomplicated use of the charging infrastructure, Hessen has also advocated that in future it will be possible to pay with a bank card at charging stations, so that neither a contract with a provider nor a smartphone with an app is necessary.
