Hesse: Air traffic control announces nightly measurement flights at the airport

Frankfurt / Main (dpa / lhe) - Residents of Frankfurt Airport have to be prepared for nocturnal survey flights. The instrument landing system will be checked from Thursday (October 20th) until probably Sunday (October 23rd), the German air traffic control (DFS) announced on Tuesday. Between 11:00 p.m. and around 3:00 a.m., a special aircraft measures the precision of the signals required for safe landings. According to DFS, the signals serve to support the pilots in navigating during the approach.

During the survey, an attempt is made to avoid flying over towns. In the event of technical problems or bad weather, an alternative date is scheduled between November 4th and 6th, according to DFS.
