Hesse: Court allows bicycle demonstration on highways

Kassel (dpa/lhe) - Hesse's administrative court finally gave the green light for a bicycle parade over two motorways on Saturday. The judges rejected a complaint by Autobahn GmbH against the action planned for this Sunday, as a court spokesman said in the evening of the German Press Agency. The administrative court in Wiesbaden had already rejected a corresponding urgent application on Friday. The Autobahn GmbH took action against this.

With the bicycle demonstration, organizers and supporters want to get the planned referendum for a traffic turnaround in Hesse off the ground. They want to cycle from Frankfurt via the A648 and the A66 to the state capital. 5,000 to 10,000 participants are expected. The police expect "considerable traffic obstructions" in the entire Rhine-Main area. A cycle rally from Friedberg, Hanau and Darmstadt leads to the starting point of the motorway section at the Frankfurt Trade Fair.
