Hesse: Eintracht sports director hopes for a boost in women's football

Frankfurt/Main (dpa/lhe) - Markus Krösche sees some parallels to Eintracht Frankfurt in the successful appearance of the European Football Championship by the German women. "Your path reminds me a bit of ours in the Europa League. They work very, very well as a team and play great football," said the sports director of the Hessian Bundesliga club on Saturday in an interview with the club. So far he has seen all the games of the European Championship. "They are doing great. Because of the way they act, I am convinced that they will become European champions," said the 41-year-old.

In his opinion, the euphoria during the European Championship tournament can be felt in many places. Many who might not have been that interested in women's football before would now be watching. Therefore he hopes for a positive boost for the Bundesliga after the European Championship. "The development of the German national team carries over to the league and ultimately to the opening game," said Krösche.

The Eintracht women will play against Bayern Munich in the Frankfurt Arena on September 16th. "It's a wonderful thing for Eintracht Frankfurt. I'm hoping for as many spectators as possible, the team deserves that," said Krösche. He also hopes that women will follow men in the Champions League. As third in the Bundesliga, the team coached by Niko Arnautis has to compete in qualifying in mid-August.
