Hesse: error in cables: Hirschhagen tunnel further closed

Hessisch Lichtenau/Fulda (dpa/lhe) - The Hirschhagen tunnel on Autobahn 44, which was closed again just a few days after it opened, is still not allowed to be used. As the federal Autobahn GmbH announced on Monday in Fulda, there were still faults in the fire alarm system. The reason for this is the cable of the floor lighting, which generates interference waves.

According to the information, some of these were relocated in the afternoon. The release of the 4200 meter long tunnel was scheduled for Tuesday. The fault was initially suspected to be in a control cabinet. A total of around 740 kilometers of cable have been laid in the tunnel.

The structure between Helsa (Kassel district) and Hessisch Lichtenau (Werra-Meißner district) was opened to traffic on October 7 after nine years of construction. It was closed last Wednesday. According to Autobahn GmbH, the tunnel is Hesse's longest and Germany's second-longest road tunnel. Only the Rennsteig Tunnel (A71) between Erfurt and Schweinfurt, which is 7,916 meters long, is longer.
