Hesse: Father and son seriously injured in a room fire

Steinbach/Taunus (dpa/lhe) - A man in need of care and his son were seriously injured in a room fire in Steinbach im Taunus. Neighbors from the residential building in the city in the Hochtaunus district saw smoke rising from the ground floor apartment on Friday morning and immediately dialed the emergency call, according to the Steinbach volunteer fire brigade. After the front door didn't work, the patient's son, who rushed to help, smashed the window on the front of the house and rescued his father from the apartment, said city fire inspector Mathias Bergmann.

The son sustained severe cuts. Slightly injured neighbors and the son were treated on site, said Bergmann. The father was flown by helicopter to a clinic for severe burns. Firefighters were able to stop the fire from spreading. The cause of the fire was initially unclear, but the fire brigade did not assume it was arson.
