Hesse: Frankfurt marathon back after a two-year break

Frankfurt/Main (dpa/lhe) - After a two-year break, there will be another international marathon in Frankfurt on October 30th. Due to the corona pandemic, the race last took place in the Main metropolis in 2019. According to the organizer, around 12,000 runners are expected to attend the 39th edition of Germany's oldest city marathon. "We will experience a Mainova Frankfurt marathon as we know it. With a great start and an exhilarating finish in the Festhalle in front of thousands of spectators," said race director Jo Schindler in a press release on Thursday.

The aim of the organizer is, after a long break, to create a unique running experience for popular and top-class sports. Because of the European and World Athletics Championships this summer, only a few top German runners are at the start. With the Regensburg Filimon Abraham a promising athlete starts.

Ethiopian Betesfa Getahun is the favorite among the men. With a best time of 2:05:28 hours, the 23-year-old is the fastest runner on the start list. In his only 21-year-old compatriot Gebru Redahgne, who is registered with a best time of 2:05:58 hours, he has a challenger on an equal footing.
