Hesse: Future Atlas: Four Hessian municipalities among the top 20

Berlin (dpa/lhe) - According to a study, Darmstadt is one of the cities with the best future prospects in Germany. In an analysis by the Prognos research and consulting institute, the southern Hessian city was ranked 7th among the top 10 independent cities and districts. The study for the "Handelsblatt" also confirms good prospects for the Hochtaunus district (12th place), the Main-Taunus district (14th) and the banking metropolis Frankfurt (20th). Wiesbaden comes in 35th place. The cities of Offenbach (178) and Kassel (180) are far behind.

According to the study, regions specializing in future industries are generally well prepared for the future. According to this, around a quarter of the regions in this group can be found in western Germany, mostly in southern Germany. The study also sees a linking of large cities and their environs as a recipe for success. She cites Frankfurt as an example.

According to the study, the cities and districts with the best future prospects are further south. The Prognos "Future Atlas" certifies the district of Munich as having the best prospects, followed by Erlangen and the city of Munich. The study sees clear risks for the districts of Mansfeld-Südharz (rank 400) and Stendal (399) in Saxony-Anhalt and the district of Prignitz (398) in Brandenburg.

Every three years, Prognos examines the economic future viability of all independent cities and districts in Germany - there are currently 400. 29 indicators of competitiveness and innovative strength, the labor market situation, demographics, the social situation and prosperity are taken into account.
