Hesse: man attacks passers-by: five injured

Wiesbaden (dpa/lhe) - A 49-year-old man is said to have hit pedestrians indiscriminately in downtown Wiesbaden and injured five people. The man initially hit a 16-year-old with his elbow in the jaw, the police said on Sunday. The teenager fell and hit the back of her head on the ground. She was taken to a hospital as a precaution.

Then the 49-year-old is said to have hit a woman in the shoulder and punched a 24-year-old and a 16-year-old in the ribs. The man is said to have injured a 78-year-old with a blow to the forehead. A patrol arrested the alleged perpetrator. A police spokesman said the man was known to authorities for other violent crimes. A judge ordered him to be taken into custody to prevent further crimes.

On Saturday night, three men aged 24, 28 and 32 were injured in a fight in a park in Wiesbaden. According to police, they were talking to two women when a group of men approached and an argument ensued. An unknown person sprayed pepper spray on the 24-year-old, and a 25-year-old is said to have punched the 32-year-old in the face several times. At the same time, several other strangers are also said to have beaten the 32-year-old. The 25-year-old suspect also pulled out a knife and threatened it. He was arrested.
