Hesse: Prime Minister Rhein: "fair" relief package

Wiesbaden (dpa/lhe) - According to Hesse's Prime Minister Boris Rhein (CDU), the relief package is "in the right direction". "The glaring error of the first two relief packages, according to which pensioners and students should not receive any money at all, will be corrected," said Rhein on Sunday in Wiesbaden. At the same time, it should now be ensured that the broad middle of society is at least not additionally burdened. "That is fair."

"I think it's fundamentally justifiable to skim off the accidental profits on the electricity market caused by the crisis," said Rhein. "People cannot be explained why companies that are not affected themselves should benefit from such a crisis." The traffic light must now submit details of the regulation.

The leader of the SPD parliamentary group in the Hessian state parliament, Günter Rudolph, also sees the package positively: "In crises, you have to protect those who have the least. The SPD does it socially, directly and purposefully." The package of measures provides relief for those who need help most urgently. However, the coalition does not distribute according to the watering can principle - people with low and middle incomes are specifically targeted.

The new relief package provides for a one-off energy price lump sum for pensioners, students and trainees, as well as an increase in child benefit and an increase in the standard rates for the needy. In the future, a discounted price will apply to basic electricity consumption, and the traffic light coalition also wants a new nationwide public transport ticket – the goal is a price range of between 49 and 69 euros per month.
