Saxony: Günther praises the relief package: energy prices must fall

Dresden (dpa/sn) - Saxony's Energy Minister Wolfram Günther (Bündnis 90/Die Grünen) has praised the federal government's new relief package. It provides targeted and substantial help to people with medium and low incomes, "all those people who need it most," he said on Sunday in Dresden, according to a statement. That is good and necessary for Saxony. It is important: "The energy prices must fall," warned Günther. "We need a winter of solidarity."

In view of rising prices, the traffic light coalition in Berlin had agreed on a third support package worth over 65 billion euros. Pensioners are to receive 300 euros as a one-off energy price flat rate, students and trainees 200 euros. In the future, a discounted price will apply for basic electricity consumption. The goal for a new nationwide public transport ticket is a price range between 49 and 69 euros per month. Standard rates for the needy and child benefit should increase.
