North Rhine-Westphalia: Late equalizer: Bielefeld saves a point in Darmstadt

Darmstadt (dpa / lnw) - Bundesliga relegated Arminia Bielefeld has fought a point at Darmstadt 98 with a very late goal. Robin Hack equalized at 1-1 (0-1) on Sunday in the fourth minute of added time. By winning the point, Arminia prevented them from slipping down to the relegation place. Darmstadt is fourth in the table. Braydon Manu put the Hessians in the lead in the 8th minute.

"I think we fought well at the end. It was willpower then," Hack said on Sky TV. "We're all happy that it worked out like that in the end."

Darmstadt's dominance in the early stages had previously been rewarded with an early goal from Manu, who shoved the ball through the legs after a pass from Arminen goalkeeper Martin Fraisl by Fabian Schnellhardt. In return, Bryan Lasme missed the quick equalizer when he fired the ball from a few yards into the crossbar after a defense by 98 goalkeeper Marcel Schuhen came up short.

Ten minutes later, Schuhen saved the superior hosts from conceding a goal again. He fended off a header from Oliver Hüsing. In a hard-fought game, Marvin Mehlem (39th) missed the second Darmstadt goal.

Even after the half-time break, the game remained open. Bielefeld tried to score, but Hack first failed on shoes (52nd) and later only hit the outer post. Almost with the last action, the 24-year-old scored with a fine flick.
