Hesse: Opposition demands more teachers for the Hessian schools

Wiesbaden (dpa/lhe) - The Hessian state parliament opposition is calling for more teachers for schools in the state. The state government has announced 4,000 new teaching positions for the next two years, explained several education experts from the opposition factions on Wednesday in the budget debate in the Hessian state parliament in Wiesbaden. However, it is already foreseeable that these positions cannot be filled. Current vacancies at the Hessian schools remained open.

Minister of Education Alexander Lorz (CDU) emphasized the need to provide large amounts of funding in the education budget for the creation of the announced new teaching posts and also referred to the large number of immigrant children and young people. The minister admitted that it would not be easy to adequately fill all of these positions. There is a shortage of skilled workers in all areas. This does not stop at the education sector either. Efforts to recruit teachers will continue.
