Hesse: "Our village has a future": the winners have been determined

Wiesbaden (dpa/lhe) - The village of Ebersburg-Weyhers in the western Rhön took first place in this year's state competition "Our village has a future". Together with the second-placed Hünfelden-Mensfelden near Limburg, it will represent Hesse next year at the 27th federal competition, Environment Minister Priska Hinz (Greens) announced on Friday. The competition honors the commitment of the citizens and outstanding ideas and projects for the sustainable development of Hessian villages.

A state jury selected five out of a total of 72 Hessian villages that had already taken part in regional decisions in the spring. The prize money ranged from 7,000 euros for first place to 3,000 euros for fifth place. Four special prizes of 2,000 euros each were also awarded among the participating villages for special achievements. From the point of view of the jury, Ebersburg-Weyhers qualified for first place in particular because of its "exemplary work between generations and social space". According to the jury, Hünfelden-Mensfelden convinced with "strong solidarity, distinctive helper culture and strong voluntary work".
