Hanau (dpa/lhe) - Several wildfires broke out on the railway line between Maintal and Hanau-West in the Main-Kinzig district on Sunday. The fire probably broke out as a result of flying sparks when a train braked, said a spokesman for the Hanau fire brigade. At midday, several fires ignited over a distance of two to three kilometers, the largest of which covered an area of 5,000 square meters. "It was partially intertwined," said the spokesman. The fire threatened to spread to houses. But this could be prevented. The fires were under control by 9 p.m.
According to the information, there were four major deployment sites. Bushes and undergrowth caught fire. Overall, the fire burned over an area of around 10,000 square meters, the spokesman said.
