Hesse: Rising prices: Kassel pays residents energy money

Kassel (dpa/lhe) - The city of Kassel will pay its residents a one-time energy allowance of 75 euros per person upon application. This was decided by the city council of the North Hessian municipality on Monday evening against the background of rising energy costs in the wake of the Ukraine war. The magistrate approved the proposal by Mayor Christian Geselle (SPD) with 39 out of 69 votes. The city will provide funds totaling 15.4 million euros for this purpose.

"Until the energy industry is more resilient to existing and future crises, constantly high or even rising prices can be expected. These costs are a burden on the residents of Kassel, especially in the colder months of the year," the application said. The residents' energy money should therefore be granted once upon application to everyone who resides in Kassel between October 1, 2022 and March 31, 2023. This includes adults as well as children. A family of four could therefore receive a subsidy of 300 euros. Kassel currently has around 205,000 inhabitants.
