Hesse: Senior woman hit: process against drivers

Fulda (dpa/lhe) - The trial against a 21-year-old driver for manslaughter begins this Tuesday in front of the Fulda district court. On August 19 last year in Fulda, he is said to have hit a 71-year-old woman who was walking on the sidewalk with her walker and died days later. The 21-year-old is charged with manslaughter and illegal motor vehicle racing.

According to the public prosecutor, the young man from Fulda tried to evade a police check by speeding away. He lost control of his vehicle and caught the elderly woman on the sidewalk. The woman was squeezed between the car and a wall. The defendant accepted the death of the pedestrian with approval. Despite emergency surgery, the elderly woman died a few days after the incident from the injuries she sustained. A verdict is expected by the end of February.
