Hesse: State updates plan to protect against sexualized violence

Wiesbaden (dpa/lhe) - Children and young people in Hesse are to be protected from sexual violence in the future through more preventive measures. A state action plan has been updated in a year-long process, said Minister of Social Affairs Kai Klose (Greens) on Tuesday in Wiesbaden. Since November 2021, experts and those affected have developed 38 measures.

Advice and support services are to be expanded for victims of sexual abuse, for example through digital information platforms and awareness-raising campaigns. In addition, more prevention work should also be done in schools and day-care centers.

The developments of the past ten years, especially digitization, would have required an adjustment of the action plan. Hesse is the first federal state to involve those affected in the amendment of the plan, explained Klose. "The perspective of people who have had to suffer sexualized violence themselves is very helpful in preventing it and protecting young people from it."

The first state action plan was adopted by the cabinet in 2012 to help children and young people in Hesse to grow up and develop as safely as possible.
