Hesse: woman killed with 33 knife wounds: verdict expected

Frankfurt/Main (dpa/lhe) - In the trial of a fatal attack on a woman in front of a supermarket in Frankfurt, the verdict is expected this Wednesday (11 a.m.). The public prosecutor's office called for life imprisonment for the 46-year-old man accused of murder. He is said to have killed his 24-year-old partner in October 2019 in front of the market in the Bornheim district with 33 stab wounds.

According to the information, both of them had previously bought the knife and later instrument of the crime together in the supermarket. According to his own statement, the defendant, who is a Swedish national, originally wanted to kill himself with it. In a first trial he was sentenced to twelve years in prison for manslaughter. However, the Federal Court of Justice overturned the verdict because a conviction for murder could also be considered.

The verdict was originally supposed to be announced last Friday. However, the jury had to adjourn at short notice due to the illness of one of the judges.
