Mecklenburg-West Pomerania: Mast for the viewing platform on the Königsstuhl is erected

Sassnitz (dpa/mv) - Above the Königsstuhl on Rügen, the new viewing platform continues to take shape. The supporting mast should be erected on Wednesday, the Königsstuhl National Park Center announced on Monday. Hanging from the 42-meter-long mast, a circular path will in future float freely above the 118-meter-high chalk cliff. According to the National Park Center, the elliptically shaped viewing platform is now clearly visible on the construction site.

The advance of the platform is to be prepared in the coming weeks. According to the information, it is to be pushed forward piece by piece on a slide and finally lowered into its final position. The new platform is scheduled to open to visitors in the spring of next year and protect the area from erosion. According to earlier information from the National Park Center, around 300,000 people have visited the Königsstuhl each year. The previous vantage point on the rock was cordoned off at the end of September after a ceremonial finale.

Interested parties are invited to inspect the construction progress on site. According to the information, admission to the visitor center including the exhibition is reduced with immediate effect. The Königsstuhl can also still be admired from a temporary viewing platform.
