Bördekreis (dpa/sa) - A 59-year-old cyclist was hit by a car between the towns of Neuwegersleben and Hornhausen and fatally injured. The man was riding his bike on Monday morning on the B246 from Neuwegersleben towards Hornhausen when he was hit by the car from behind, the police said. Accordingly, he fell off his bike and came to rest on an embankment. The alarmed emergency doctor could only determine the death of the 59-year-old.
Why the 33-year-old driver noticed the cyclist driving in front of him so late could not be said at first, it said. According to the police, the driver suffered a shock. Both the car and the bicycle were seized by the police and are part of the further investigation. During the rescue operation, the B246 between Neuwegersleben and Hornhausen had to be closed. The closure was still in place as of midday.
