Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: 1.4 kg of explosives: customs ensures fireworks

Tribsees (dpa / mv) - The federal police confiscated a large number of illegal fireworks and Polish firecrackers in a van on Autobahn 20. As a spokesman for the federal police said, 145 such firecrackers and several batteries with 1.4 kilograms of explosives were secured in the vehicle near Tribsees (West Pomerania-Rügen) on Monday morning. The van with three occupants was traveling east-west. The young men had no explanation for their explosive transport.

None of the men had the permission required for fireworks of this category. The 23-year-old driver was also being investigated for driving under the influence of drugs after he had taken a quick test. The fireworks would be destroyed. Just a few days ago, customs on the A20 near Görmin near Anklam (West Pomerania-Greifswald) caught a load of 19,000 category 3 fireworks in a vehicle that was on its way to Holland.

Such firecrackers and rocket fireworks should only be owned and used by people who have a special permit under the Explosives Act, it said. On the A 20, customs and federal police keep catching smugglers who want to illegally bring firecrackers from Eastern Europe to Germany or its neighboring countries.
