Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: After an ax attack in Neubrandenburg: the process begins

Neubrandenburg (dpa/mv) - A trial against a man who is said to have attacked and injured an acquaintance in Neubrandenburg with an ax begins at the Neubrandenburg district court on Tuesday (10:00 a.m.). The prosecutor accuses the accused of attempted manslaughter and dangerous bodily harm. The case caused a stir in the northeast because the 43-year-old is said to have driven through Neubrandenburg with the ax and publicly warned the police about him. Several helicopters were in use at the time.

The incident happened on September 9th - a Friday - in an apartment where a woman and the 25-year-old victim lived. The 43-year-old is accused of ringing the bell there and then hitting the acquaintance after opening it in order to kill him. He was able to raise his arms and fend off the attacks, but was injured in the process.

The suspect later allowed himself to be arrested without resistance. He is in custody and has so far denied the allegations, it said. Several days of trial are scheduled for the trial, and a verdict is expected in early March.
