Moraas/Mirow (dpa/mv) - The police are looking for arsonists in the Hegion Hagenow (Ludwigslust-Parchim). As a police spokesman said on Friday, at least two fires were recently set near the municipality of Moraas. On Thursday, a large dry area of grass burned on the outskirts of the village, a few days earlier a fire in a nearby forest had led to a firefighting operation. In both cases, the source of the fire was quickly discovered by chance, so that the damage was minimal.
The police are checking for a connection and are hoping for witnesses who have noticed suspicious vehicles or people. In the region, the risk of forest fires was three out of five as of Thursday. Due to the rain on Thursday evening and on Friday, the danger has dropped to level one, according to the State Forestry Agency MV in the Jasnitz Forestry Office. In the Mirow Forestry Office, to which the Müritz National Park belongs, the danger level dropped from five (highest danger) to one.
