Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: Art project started: Mosaic picture as a start for Treff

Wietstock (dpa/mv) - With the support of the Federal Cultural Foundation, the village of Wietstock (West Pomerania-Greifswald) is implementing an art project for more village coexistence. As project manager Susanne Burmester announced on Monday, as a first step, a six square meter mosaic picture with motifs that are important to the villagers was completed over the weekend.

It is an approximately three meter high, blue to turquoise work of art with animal and plant motifs on concrete by the Berlin artist Antje Majewski. It symbolizes a self-image in which the variety of life plans and the relationship to nature of the inhabitants are brought into harmony.

In this context, an art garden and an open pavilion with solar systems are planned, which should supply energy for the village community center and serve as a meeting place, said Burmester, which belongs to the Rügen Art Association. The project was discussed with residents and is funded by the federal government with 30,000 euros. The country is also helping. The remote village with 150 inhabitants belongs to Altwigshagen and is located in the north of the Friedländer Große Wiese, one of the largest low moor areas in the north-east.
