At 75 meters long, it is the Federal Office's largest ship and a kind of floating laboratory with state-of-the-art technology.

There are several laboratories and extensive diving equipment on board. In addition to the 18 crew members, 15 scientists can work on the "Atair". The ship, which can be powered by both liquid gas and diesel, cost almost 114 million euros.

In addition to guided tours on the ship, visitors to the event on Saturday were also offered lectures on topics such as storm surges, the Baltic Sea coast and offshore wind energy. The Federal Office, based in Hamburg and Rostock, monitors maritime shipping, conducts marine research and approves offshore installations.
