Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: Equality: State wants catalog of measures by 2025

Schwerin (dpa/mv) - In order to promote equality between women and men in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, the state government wants to develop a catalog of measures. "Equality has not yet been achieved on many levels. But an active equality policy must characterize all areas of the modern welfare state," said Equal Opportunities Minister Jacqueline Bernhardt (left) on Tuesday in Schwerin. By the end of 2024 or early 2025, the catalog of the working group made up of the state secretaries of the ministries should be ready. This should be set up on Wednesday.

The minister, who is also responsible for the judiciary, also sees a need in her own department: Only every third managerial position in the courts and public prosecutor's offices in the northeast is currently occupied by a woman. In the prison service, the proportion of women is 26 percent. Bernhardt described this as "expandable".

However, from the point of view of the State Government Commissioner for Gender Equality and Women, Wenke Brüdgam, it is important to also shed light on the subject areas where the importance of gender equality is not clear at first glance: As an example, she cited the distribution of land ownership in the agricultural industry . According to her, however, data from the State Statistical Office, the employment agency and in the form of studies should first be collected in order to be able to clearly identify the problem areas.
