Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: Ex-Mannheim coach Glöckner takes over Hansa Rostock

Rostock (dpa / mv) - Hansa Rostock signed a new coach just one day after Jens Härtel was on leave. Patrick Glöckner should stabilize the second division soccer team and lead them into the secure middle of the table. The 45-year-old, who was born in Bonn, led Rostock's first training session on Monday and will take care of the team in the home game against 1. FC Nürnberg on Wednesday (6.30 p.m. / Sky). The last game of the year is the encounter with newly promoted Eintracht Braunschweig on Saturday (8.30 p.m. / Sky and Sport1).

Glöckner had been in charge of the third division team SV Waldhof Mannheim until the summer of this year. Before that he worked as a head coach at Chemnitzer FC and Viktoria Köln. In 2017 he worked as an assistant coach at FC St. Pauli for a good five months. Most recently, he was also in talks with SpVgg Greuther Fürth and 1. FC Saarbrücken.

Sports director Martin Pieckenhagen released his predecessor Haertel on Sunday evening after almost four years at Hansa Rostock. The club came to the conclusion that "we have now reached a point where it is time for changes and new impetus," said Pieckenhagen.

Rostock are twelfth in the table with 17 points - just two points away from a relegation zone. Last Friday they lost their home game against the table penultimate SV Sandhausen 0:1. After that, the club decided to change coaches.

Before training on Monday, the club also announced the separation from assistant coach Ronny Thielemann. The 48-year-old joined FC Hansa in January 2019 together with Haertel from 1. FC Magdeburg. "We are very grateful to Ronny for his work over the past few years," said Pieckenhagen.
