Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: Federation of trade unions: adherence to collective bargaining agreements is a good signal

Schwerin (dpa/mv) - The German Trade Union Confederation (DGB) sees the planned tariff rules for public contracts in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania as a measure against wage dumping. "With the new procurement guidelines, the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is living up to its special responsibility for the use of tax funds, but also for the design of good working conditions and wages for employees," said Ingo Schlueter, deputy chairman of the DGB Nord, on Wednesday in Schwerin.

According to the plans of the red-red coalition, public contracts should only be awarded to companies that either pay according to collective agreements or offer employees comparable remuneration.

From the union's point of view, higher wages make the location more attractive. "Anyone who, given the record level of employment subject to social security contributions in MV, cannot find any workers, must finally become competitive as an employer through attractive collectively agreed working conditions," says Schlueter. Companies should not be rewarded with state contracts for paying below the collective bargaining agreement.

According to the DGB, companies without a collective agreement in the northeast pay their employees an average of 850 euros less per month than those with a collective agreement.
