Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: Follow-up adjustments in the implementation of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities

Schwerin (dpa/mv) - In the spring of 2023, the state government wants to make adjustments to the implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. A binding internal government survey is currently being carried out on the status of the implementation of 100 agreed measures, said Social Affairs Minister Stefanie Drese (SPD) on Friday on the occasion of the Day of People with Disabilities on Saturday. The so-called action plan 2.0 should be implemented by 2026.

According to the Ministry of Social Affairs, a total of around 385,000 people with disabilities live in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania (as of the end of 2021), of which 201,000 have a severely disabled pass. For these people, Drese called for better inclusion in training and the labor market: "We must therefore promote more opportunities for participation and break down barriers at the political and social level in order to support all people in leading a self-determined life."
