Kröger has been a member of the Rostock Parliament since 2009 and a member of the state parliament since 2016. A new mayor will be elected in Rostock on November 13th. The previous incumbent, Claus Ruhe Madsen, moved to Schleswig-Holstein in June as Economics Minister in the cabinet of Prime Minister Daniel Günther (CDU). The Greens and SPD also nominated women for the top posts in the town hall of the largest city in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.
