Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: Müller becomes Parliamentary State Secretary for Özdemir

Claudia Müller, Greens member of the Bundestag and federal government coordinator for maritime economy and tourism, failed in the mayoral election in Rostock. Now she gets a new job in the Federal Ministry of Agriculture.

Berlin/Rostock (dpa/mv) - The Greens politician Claudia Müller from Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania will become Parliamentary State Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Agriculture. The 41-year-old member of the Bundestag is to succeed Manuela Rottmann in January, who asked Minister Cem Özdemir (Greens) to be dismissed at the end of the year, the ministry announced on Friday in Berlin.

As a politician from Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Müller knows the challenges facing German fisheries and what effects the climate crisis is having on the Baltic Sea in particular, Özdemir explained. "I am convinced that Claudia Müller will provide valuable impetus against the background of her East German biography."

It was only at the beginning of 2022 that Müller was appointed the federal government’s coordinator for maritime industry and tourism. Most recently, she had tried unsuccessfully to become the mayor of Rostock. She received 8.6 percent in the first ballot in November and thus did not make it into the runoff, which left-wing politician Eva-Maria Kröger ultimately won. According to the information, Müller lives near Barth in the Vorpommern-Rügen district.
