Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: neighbors attacked: trial for attempted manslaughter

Neubrandenburg (dpa/mv) - Because he is said to have attacked a neighbor with a machete during a dispute, a 70-year-old man from Bartow (Mecklenburg Lake District) must now answer in court. As the district court in Neubrandenburg announced on Monday, the trial for attempted manslaughter against the pensioner begins on Tuesday. The incident happened on May 10 in the town south of Jarmen.

The senior is said to have tried to hit the neighbor in the head with a weapon with a 40-centimetre-long blade during an argument and then seriously injured his arms and upper body. However, the 36-year-old victim managed to take the gun away from the attacker.

The victim survived the incident. The 70-year-old, who is said to have been drunk, was caught at the scene of the crime and was taken into custody. He faces several years in prison. Four days of negotiations are planned for the trial, with a verdict expected in early November.
