Schwerin (dpa/mv) - The Ministry of Education in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania wants to continue to give teachers the opportunity to work part-time without restrictions. "Everything must be possible despite the tense personnel situation. Restricting part-time work like other federal states is therefore out of the question," said Minister of Education Simone Oldenburg (left) on Thursday in Schwerin.
On the contrary, further simplifications are planned. According to the information, credit hours – which reduce the compulsory hours of teachers from a certain age – should be valid earlier. Once the age limit has been exceeded, the reduction should take effect for the next half-year and not - as has been the case up to now - for the next full school year.
According to figures from the ministry, 31.2 percent of the 20,473 teachers in public schools currently work part-time. Of the 1,220 teachers at publicly funded vocational schools, it is 23.9 percent. However, the scope differs greatly: "The range extends from 26 hours, which is a reduction of one hour, to an hour scope of less than 18 hours," it said.
