Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: Plane slit: thieves plunder truck trailers on the A24

Wittenburg (dpa / mv) - So-called tarpaulin slashers looted a truck trailer in Wittenburg (Ludwigslust-Parchim) on the Autobahn 24 Berlin-Hamburg. As a police spokeswoman said on Thursday, the theft occurred on the site of a truck stop off the A24 and was reported on Wednesday. The perpetrator or perpetrators cut open the semi-trailer's tarpaulins at night, opened doors and, among other things, stole a large quantity of tobacco products. It is still unclear whether it was cigarettes or loose tobacco.

The theft damage was estimated at a five-figure sum. The 42-year-old truck driver is said to have slept in the driver's cab and, according to his own statements, did not notice anything of the fact. According to the police, such thefts by slashing truck tarpaulins have so far been rare in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, but are more common further south around Berlin. Trucks are mostly parked in Wittenburg, either coming with freight from the port of Hamburg or heading there.
