Stralsund (dpa / mv) - A cyclist was seriously injured in a collision with a car in Stralsund. The 79-year-old was taken to a hospital, police said on Monday. At a road crossing, the cyclist collided with the car, was thrown through the air and fell to the asphalt. Police say the injuries are not life-threatening. The incident happened on Sunday.

This is the fifth reported accident involving cyclists and e-bikers in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania within a few days. Four cyclists were critically injured in Bergen and near Glowe on Rügen, near Libnow near Anklam and in Schwerin. A 63-year-old e-bike rider fell on a curb in Bergen on Sunday and suffered serious head injuries. The 63-year-old is said not to have worn a helmet.

In the other three cases, a 78-year-old e-bike rider in Libnow, a 19-year-old in Schwerin and a 70-year-old cyclist in Glowe collided with cars. In this context, the police warned that motorists and cyclists should pay more attention.
