Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: Son beaten with a board: imprisonment is final

Neubrandenburg (dpa / mv) - Because he hit his three-year-old son with a wooden board, a man from Friedland near Neubrandenburg has to go to prison for more than two years. As a spokesman for the Neubrandenburg district court said on Tuesday, the verdict against the 26-year-old is now final. No one lodged an appeal within the statutory period. The regional court found the man guilty of twice assaulting his son and another man on November 17. He was sentenced to two years and three months in prison, which was exactly what the public prosecutor wanted.

"One can only be glad that the child is now in a foster family and that he is given the love that they both denied him," the judge said to the man and his fiancé in the courtroom. The incident with the boy happened in June 2022 in the mother's apartment. The motive for the hits with the 44-centimetre-long board was the man's anger that the child was not quiet in the children's room. The boy had been crying because the couple had argued while drinking. The boy suffered extensive hematomas.

The partner - the child's mother - intervened after the first beating, had also been beaten and later reported the man, who had been convicted several times. However, she declined to give any information in court. Based on her statement to the police and circumstantial evidence, the 26-year-old was found guilty.
