Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: State parliament advises on a supplementary budget worth millions

Schwerin (dpa/mv) - At its last session this year, the state parliament will decide again on Friday (9 a.m.) about special expenses related to the crisis. A supplementary budget for 2023 is available to the MPs for approval. According to the draft, the state government wants to spend an additional 508 million euros in the coming year in order to cushion the consequences of the energy crisis and reduce dependence on gas imports.

On Wednesday evening, the finance committee discussed the figures, which also include a hardship fund of 100 million euros. This money is to be used in addition to the federal aid programs, among other things, to support small and medium-sized companies, schools, universities and day-care centers. In the medium term, investments in the hydrogen economy should gradually reduce dependence on fossil fuels.

At the start of the last day of the session, MPs will debate how the state and local authorities can get through the crisis together and in partnership. In addition, there are several applications from the opposition to quickly lift the corona-related mask and isolation requirement in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, following the example of other federal states.
