Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: Talks: Federal President Steinmeier in Neustrelitz

Berlin/Neustrelitz (dpa/mv) - The small East Mecklenburg town of Neustrelitz will be the foreign official residence of Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier for three days from Tuesday (2 p.m.). The head of state is thus continuing the "Local time Germany" series he launched at the beginning of his second term of office at the beginning of the year. The multi-day stays outside of Berlin are intended to get into conversation with citizens about current challenges, wishes and concerns, according to the Office of the Federal President.

After Altenburg in Thuringia, Quedlinburg in Saxony-Anhalt and Rottweil in Baden-Württemberg, Neustrelitz is the fourth station. The focus of the forthcoming talks is likely to be the consequences of the ongoing war in Ukraine, the dramatic increase in energy prices and the effects of inflation. Among other things, meetings with schoolchildren, a "controversial coffee table" at which Steinmeier wants to discuss the topic of protest culture with the participants, and a round of talks with medium-sized companies on energy security are planned. On Thursday, the Federal President will receive the Slovenian President Borut Pahor with military honors on the city's market square.
