Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: The fireworks of the small festival are now canceled on Saturday

The cancellation of the fireworks at the event with the most visitors at the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Festival, the Small Festival in the large park in Ludwigslust, caused a stir in August. Now it will be made up for.

Ludwigslust (dpa/mv) - The fireworks at the small festival in the large park of the Mecklenburg-Western Pomeranian Festival, which were canceled at short notice in August, will be made up for this Saturday. Instead of in the park behind Ludwigslust Palace, it will take place in front of the baroque building, as the festival informs on its website.

The cancellation on August 6 caused a stir. The State Castles, Gardens and Art Collections (SSGK) of the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania had prohibited the burning of the traditional fireworks out of concern for the historic complex as a result of the weeks of drought - although the lowest forest fire warning level 1 applied on the day. This had so upset the artistic director of the small festival, Harald Böhlmann, that he sharply attacked the SSGK on the open stage in front of around 9,000 visitors. He had hoped for approval until the last minute. According to him, all other responsible persons, including the fire brigade, had agreed to the fireworks.

At that time, Böhlmann announced that he wanted to catch up on the fireworks on the square in front of the castle. The area does not belong to the SSGK but to the city of Ludwigslust. Now the time has come: The fireworks are to take place this Saturday at 10 p.m. It is the highlight of the traditional art and culture night in Ludwigslust, during which 19 cultural institutions, private courtyards and houses as well as pubs open their doors with a varied program well into the night.
