Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: Verdi warning strikes in the public sector, also in the north-east

Schwerin (dpa/mv) - In Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, the Verdi trade union has called on public sector employees to go on warning strikes in some cities on Tuesday in order to increase the pressure on employers in the ongoing wage conflict. In the state capital of Schwerin, municipal subsidiaries, the day-care center gGmbH and the municipal utility are affected. In the districts of Ludwigslust-Parchim and Northwest Mecklenburg, the warning strike was aimed at employees of all offices and municipalities.

In the current collective bargaining round, Verdi and the civil servants' association dbb are demanding 10.5 percent more income, but at least 500 euros more for the approximately 2.5 million employees in the public sector at federal and local level. According to Verdi, around 640,000 of these are in NRW. The term of the new collective agreement is to be twelve months. The employer side rejected the claims. The second round of collective bargaining is scheduled for February 22nd and 23rd in Potsdam.
