Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: woman lights candles and goes: caretaker as a rescuer

Schwerin (dpa/mv) - A fire alarm and a careful caretaker saved residents of an apartment building in Schwerin from a major fire. As a police spokesman said on Wednesday, a 35-year-old woman lit the candles of an Advent wreath in her apartment on Monday and left the apartment. The wreath caught fire, which spread to pieces of furniture, causing the smoke alarm to go off. The caretaker heard this and alerted the fire brigade, who opened the apartment door and was able to extinguish the fire before major damage occurred. The Schwerin Criminal Police Office is now investigating the woman from the Mueßer Holz district.
