Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: World War II bomb defused after 77 years in Rosenow

Rosenow (dpa/mv) - In the municipality of Rosenow (Mecklenburg Lake District), an aircraft bomb from the Second World War has been defused. As a police spokeswoman said on Tuesday, explosives expert Gerd Tiedt from the Mirow ammunition recovery service needed about 20 minutes to remove the detonator from the two-hundredweight Soviet-designed bomb. The evacuation measures and the blocking of federal highway 104 have been lifted again.

The dud was discovered on Sunday during earthworks. Property owners actually wanted to build a fence and dug up a former driveway, where the explosive projectile appeared about 50 centimeters deep. In the early afternoon, all the residents of the village had to leave their homes, including a school and a day care center, which were evacuated.

Rosenow has around 1000 inhabitants with all its districts and is located between Neubrandenburg and Stavenhagen on the B104.
